The Facebook Netiquette guide I created was for situations with potentially real damaging consequences, not niceties to appease someone's ego that one does things the way they want just because they think it's how it should be done.

As for purging "Facebook friends", I don't want to be a stickler of a gatekeeper to Facebook "friendships". I do believe in giving things and people a chance. However, if nothing is happening, then why keep the people? I know where I can find them if I need to find them. I only leave risk bad things might happen, or at the least, it might make it annoying they show up in lists when I'm trying to find people, even with autofill. And they likely won't know or care if you dropped them from your list. If they did, they should be in touch more often or something rather than only when they are off your FB list.

My FB "friends" list isn't like an ace fighter pilot's list of kills that is his/her source of pride like some people I know treat it. It's just a list.

BTW, today is Safer Internet Day. I'm glad to say I've helped contribute with my FB Guides, just having it also translated into Spanish on my new blog that's not environmental stats focused.
http://digitalcitizen.ca/2009/02/02/una-guia-de-netiqueta-practica-para-facebook/

I was just using the Envirostats blog as a convenient platform I had for a while. The French translation is coming soon, too! And there is also a note about this 25 Things on Facebook people are doing that makes it easier to steal their identities.

If you have questions, I'd be willing to take them, too. Might help relieve Emily Post. Helps me understand the issues better and see different perspectives in answering the questions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18042907.post-90721532359584714952009-02-04T21:00:00.000-06:002009-02-04T21:00:00.000-06:00Well, you could always try sending a question dire...Well, you could always try sending a question directly to the Emily Post Institute (http://www.emilypost.com/.) You'll probably get through to Lizzie Post (Emily's great, great, granddaughter.) I think she gets a fair number of questions about facebook and the like. Please go easy on her though--she's a friend and she won't be happy that I'm sending extra work her way. ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
