We (or at least I) assumed that all kids are the digital natives and the teachers coming out of colleges now are digital natives. Her research has found the "real" Digital Natives are currently in the 3rd grade. I was blown away with that statement. I thought we would be further along than that. So, the questions is are we over the fear? I would say no. Everyone is becoming more aware of technology, and people are slowly adapting to use pieces of technology at thier own pace. Change is still very scary to most people, and being that technology changes so fast, I think it will remain a scary thing until the current 3rd graders join the work force...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18042907.post-13671688450085162492011-03-22T17:03:20.336-05:002011-03-22T17:03:20.336-05:00More comments can be found here!

We have to change...I think technology means change. We have to change the way we teach, we think, we interact. We have to be able to embrace change. Some can. Some can't. I found smart boards daunting the first time I used them. Now I can't imagine teaching without one. Graphing calculators, facebook, websites, etc. etc., all required a learning curve. Throw in networking, online classes, Edmodo, online books, video sharing, project software....make it stop!!! ha People are in different places with technology. I remember being very frustrated. I got over it. I suspect he will too. We need safe places to be while we learn. Learning to just listen and let things 'stick' is an acquired skill. Keep encouraging people to do that. There is a quote I heard recently by Arthur C Clarke "A teacher that can be replaced by a computer, should be." Thanks for the great food for thought.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18042907.post-78955347437508939892011-03-07T17:38:25.339-06:002011-03-07T17:38:25.339-06:00Here is another story about how we fear things are...Here is another story about how we fear things are not connected with facts.

Fear Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18042907.post-80251723592194805712011-03-07T17:17:12.943-06:002011-03-07T17:17:12.943-06:00Here is a better link to the same story.
