My first experience with blogs was back in April 2005. David Duchovny, former star of the TV hit The X-Files, was promoting his directorial debut "The House of D". Lions Gate Entertainment, the producers of his film, set up a blog for him to explain the journey of an independent filmmaker. As a former filmmaker, I found this incredibly fascinating. The film, which stars Robin Williams and Anton Yelchin, tells the story of a boy who fled America when he was 13 and now at 40 is still struggling with his identity. The blog site included both audio and video blogs as Duchovny traveled the country promoting the film.

Since then I have been very intrigued about how to get involved in my own blogging. As soon as I saw this class, I knew the opportunity had arrived. Although I teach at a school where many students do not have access to the internet at home, I want to learn about this to communicate with other math educators about some of my ideas to change the face of mathematics education in America.

I see the potential of blogs in the educational setting both for students and teachers. It opens another avenue of communication in today's highest technological and global society.

As with anything on the internet, there should be concerns. At this point, I am not sure what they are, so I hope this class with deal with this issue.

As a X-Files fanfic writer, I am interested in exploring the possibilities of blogging in relation to my writing. As an educator, I am interested in exploring its potential in my classroom. As an internet devotee, I am just interested in exploring something new.
