I'm in a "JibJab" Frame of Mind

The end of the semester is finally here, and I have been determined the last week or so to find a little time to construct a blog post before I left for the holidays. It's been a while since I have sat down and spent a little time reading and sharing. So, I tried to do that this morning. Amid the many interruptions, I managed to read parts of several articles -- enough to get my mind moving and start thinking about what I could write about. I figured when I got back from lunch I would be ready - I was even looking forward to it. I would focus and weave, focus and weave.

Back from lunch. Unfortunately, neither the focusing nor the weaving is happening. I'm not even going to pretend like I am surprised. Like everyone else, I am tired. I'm ready for something a little more lighthearted, I guess.

Here's what I came up with:

We hope you have a great holiday season.

Intro to Photoshop on the Eighth Floor - THE MOVIE!

We have ordered some Flip Video cameras for our Eighth Floor classes this summer. I can't wait to start using them in class! These are seriously easy to use video cameras. You know me, I don't like anything too complicated. You also know that I couldn't help playing with one and in the process making Scott my victim.

Since he is teaching an Intro to Photoshop class this morning, I thought I would video the start of his class and thus share the course topics with anyone interested in taking the class. So! If you want to know what you will learn in this very popular class, watch the video.

Even if you don't care about the class, watch the video! I confess that I didn't spend a lot of time "editing" the video and cleaning it up, sorry. I'm dying to, but I just don't have the time right now. I'm going to guess this first attempt at this took me about one and half - two hours including creating this blog post. I'm sure I will be faster next time!

Here are the tools I used: Flip Video, Microsoft MovieMaker, YouTube, and Blogger.com. Except for the Flip video, these tools are all free, and of course, "stuff" you can learn about in our classes.

(Thanks, Scott, for always being such a good sport!)

Twitter in Plain English

I ran across this new video and had to share. Lee and Sachi LeFever have come up with another video in plain English: Twitter in Plain English. Twitter might be described as a cross between blogging and instant messaging. Check it out.

Social Bookmarking in Plain English

I love it when I find exactly what I am looking for. Over the last year, the Common Craft Show has created several videos that aid my instruction, both online and face-to-face. They are simple, clear, short, and exactly what I would do if I had the time. So, last night while I was thinking about the Social Bookmarking and RSS class I am teaching this afternoon, I wondered if they had created one for this topic yet. Sure enough!

Lee LeFever really puts social bookmarking in . . . well . . . plain English.

Of course, I have to remind you that we offer classes on social bookmarking. Our next class, Social Bookmarking and RSS: Your Internet Partyline, is October 23, 2007 from 4:15 - 7:15 pm on the Eighth Floor.

The Best PowerPoint Advice a Girl Can Get

I know I have shared this hilarious video by Don McMillan with some of you already - I'm just a sharerer! Everybody loves to laugh, right? This guy will make you laugh at other people AND yourself. If you are a PowerPoint user, then you are a PowerPoint loser. He has graphs and bullet points to prove it!

I noticed on the calendar that we have a PowerPoint for the Classroom course coming up on Sept 20th. I'm just sayin', you might want to check it out. This class starts with beginning skills and finishes with some pretty sophisticated tricks. In addition to this day long class, we have several two hour classes throughout the semester in the evenings and on Saturdays.

If you are interested in other resources to help you shed your "PPT Loser" status, we shared some great ones in a previous post on being a PPT Loser. (We've been aware of this problem for some time. )

As always, if you have comments or questions, you know where to find me!

Thanks!
